Next Steps in Standards-Based Assessment & Reporting

About the institute

“Writers’ Workshop” is designed for K-8 classroom teachers, school leaders, coaches and curriculum specialists who are committed developing student writing using the Columbia University TCRWP Model.

The objectives of the workshops include:

  • Using a planning protocol to develop an understanding for a new unit of study.

  • Analyzing the 'parts' of the writers’ workshop structure to make our teaching effective; Conferring, Strategy groups, and Mid-workshop teaching.

  • Developing lessons a from and inquiry based perspective.

  • Using the TCRWP checklists (that come with each unit) effectively with  students through modeled lessons, as well as conferring.

The trainings, based on the TCRWP Writer’s Workshop Model are designed to be inquiry based, goal-driven, practical, interactive, and inspiring - the kind of professional development that brings a diverse community of educators together around a shared vision and lifts literacy learning schoolwide. The on site work with teachers and administrators is planned as a strategic mix of in-classroom teaching demonstrations, grade level team workshops, and broader all-school trainings.

Please note that workshops will be presented in English. Participants will find the sessions more meaningful if they attend as part of a same-school group.
